Handwork should be an important aspect of one's growing up days, actually they should be an integral part of our education system. Hands are directly connected to the development of one's brain. We should introduce the same in a child's life at a very early stage. Eating with one's own hand as early as possible helps the child build his organs better, understand hunger and develops the grip of the child, Washing ones own bowl/plate post a meal helps them develop their sense of touch and balance. At the age of 3 yrs beading, lacing a wooden board, between the years of 4 to 5 handwork like stitching, weaving and beading small glass beads and making bracelets anklets and necklaces. Post 6 yrs onwards handwork like knitting, crochet, wood work, metal work, clay work (pottery) through their teens help them develop different skills like fine motor, hand eye coordination, left and right brain development, learning arithmetic, skip counting, flexibility in thinking, imagination, pattern forming, calming meditative activity, arousal of power of concentration, determination, patience, precision and a lot more.
Not to forget the fun and excitement of completion of a project and creating new things from scratch. The joy of handmade things and love for creating new things. We can develop their self esteem and confidence of seeing through things till the end and the result of this handwork is seen when they start their careers where they face different situations and can see through it with a lot more ease and creativity, precision and determination.
So please encourage your children to do as much handwork as possible it's for their better future after all !!!
